I’ve been tagged for The Sunshine Blogger Award, by a friend of mine. She has given me some tips so that I don’t make this painful for you.
1. IF YOU COULD GO BACK TO MARCH KNOWING HOW LONG LOCKDOWN/SOCIAL DISTANCING WOULD LAST, WOULD YOU HAVE TRIED TO USE THE TIME MORE PRODUCTIVELY?
Yeah, maybe. I think I could have used the time to do more useful things. I found it real hard when Ben was away. I tried to get myself into a routine of working from home, exercising, eating healthily. I was going insane. My friends were great to talk to as it made me realize everyone was struggling.
I wish I had made time to learn an instrument or something practical like making curtains or Roman blinds. I love Roman blinds, but they are expensive to purchase. I would love to make my own.
Ben has said he would have liked to have been here during the spring months because he would have liked to have done more work to make the garden better for hosting outdoor parties. We had friends round when he came back, but he is right, our garden is kinda boring. We have a lawn and some flower beds and pot plants. But we could do much more with it.
2. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER ARE YOU USING RIGHT NOW?
I’m using L’Oreal Clay Shampoo and Conditioner. I was recommended it by a friend because as my hair has been getting longer this year, the roots are greasier and the ends are drier.
3. WHERE DO YOU DO MOST READING?
Depends what I am reading. In the morning I make coffee and sit on the sofa reading the news on Ben’s i-pad. Then I go and sit at the little desk we have that I am using for work and read all my emails for work. Ben is using the dining table as his office. (Well, he was during our quarantine, now I am the only one working from home most days.)
When I need a mental break, I flick through a magazine. We have a stack of magazines that we picked up here and there. I only keep them because sometimes I want to read something on paper because my eyes are tired of the screen.
When I am reading a novel, including one of own books, I read in bed.
4. DO YOU USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT TO GET AROUND YOUR AREA?
Nope. We use the car to get around. But this year, I started walking to the shops more to buy as many groceries as I could carry back on my own. It was just great to get out of the house.
5. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ON A FIRST AID COURSE?
Yeah. I did around ten years ago. I could never get the hang of slings. Not that mattered. I was pretty hot with the basics. My certificate lapsed a long time ago. I think it was only valid for three years.
6. ARE YOU MAKING ANY BIG PLANS FOR 2021 YET?
Hell no! I kinda think anyone who does is nuts. The fall-out from this year could be even bigger than the mess we have had.
Ben has a contract that lasts until the end of 2021. That dictates our life in some ways.
It’s not a big thing, but I want to to write more. I’m finding my groove with writing and I have lots of ideas. It’s also a great distraction from all the crap in the world. Our fourth novel will be a cybersex storyline. That is taking shape nicely.
I have been writing so far from a female’s perspective in my novellas, but I have an idea for a guy who is almost sixty and has a lady-friend who does not seem to have any interest in sex. I have an idea for a story about how he meets a woman half of his age. It’s going to be a comedy, but at the same time I want to showcase how scary it can be for a man who has never done something like that. I am trying to get my ideas together so I know my main character really well. He’s going to be the kind of guy who likes fishing and eating corned beef sandwiches. But the woman he meets is going to take him to places he never knew existed.
7. DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE ITEM OF JEWELRY?
I don’t have one favourite piece of jewelry. I have some rings and brooches that belonged to my gran, but I keep them safe. I don’t wear them.
I love wearing earrings. I feel sexier in earrings. I feel naked without earrings. Is this making sense? I don’t have a favourite pair. I just like to coordinate with my outfit.
8. WHAT WAS THE LAST ITEM YOU BOUGHT FROM AMAZON?
A pink torch. It’s only diddy. Ben said that he wants me to carry a torch in my handbag because it gets real dark around here. The street lighting is not great. It makes things look kinda amber, but you still can’t see the sidewalk properly.
When I looked on Amazon, they had this little pink torch with a karabiner, so I could either carry it in my bag or clip it onto something.
9. WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHANGE TO YOUR LIFESTYLE DURING OUR CRAZY 2020?
So the hardest part of 2020 was when Ben was abroad during the spring. He was supposed to be going for a week. A week became almost three months. That was hard. But the novellas all came about because of that time away from each other and the emails we were sending to each other.
Not seeing our friends as often as we used to. Not attending work conferences. Not planning vacations overseas. Not receiving invites to weddings and big parties. We went to a couple of outdoor parties in August (around twenty people) but that’s no longer allowed.
The only good things I remember is feeling connected with nature. The sunsets seemed more spectacular than I ever remember before. I also think I drew closer to friends who I came to appreciate more. You know that saying about how it’s in times of trouble you know who your real friends are, well I just think I learnt that some of my friends are a big help and encouragement, whereas some were having meltdowns about everything.
Caramel, who nominated me for this, turned out to be the friend who was supporting everyone, keeping us all together, getting us to be practical and calm. We also had in common being alone while our partners were overseas. Her beau was away too.
10. WHY DO SO MANY SINCERE PEOPLE BELIEVE DIFFERENT THINGS? AND DO YOU THINK IT MATTERS?
Man – that’s kinda deep for this blog.
I do think that sincere people can believe things that are not true. I do think sincere people can be misled. I think people put too much trust in what they read on the internet and in the media – that kinda freaks me out.
I think some people are just kinda sweet, and they don’t want to upset family or friends. They don’t fight to be able to think for themselves, but they bow to peer pressure even it it makes no sense. Sometimes nice people can be too trusting. Is that fair? I just mean nice people see the good in people, sometimes they forgive too easily. So it can make them vulnerable to manipulators.
Does it matter? Well yeah, I guess it does. Mainly because it might end up screwing them over. Even if they are super genuine and sincere themselves, they could end up seriously damaged by believing something that ain’t true.
Just because something sounds nice or looks pretty, it does not mean it aint bad or harmful. It might have poison inside it. I heard a few weeks ago of a group of school kids in London being taken to hospital after eating some sweets and becoming ill. Apparently the sweets had cannabis in them.
I think beliefs can be like that. Some people are in a way poisoning themselves. They are just so hooked on the flavour, they don’t see the damage that is being done to them.
11. DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE JAM/JELLY/PRESERVE?
I like raspberry jam. You knew that though, yeah?
